Recipe: Nana's Split Pea Crock Pot Soup

1 lb (or 16 oz) of split peas, washed/rinsed
3 large carrots
3 large sprigs of celery
2 medium russet taters
1 ham hock with ham on the bone
1 large yellow onion
6-7 cups of water
2 cloves of garlic
1 bay leaf
salt & pepper to taste

1.) Drop peas in crock pot
2.) Chop up carrots, celery, taters, and onion (not too big, not too small - medium pieces is just right)
3.) Drop 'em all in the crock pot
4.) Drop ham hock in the crock pot
5.) Chop up garlic - almost to the point of being minced
6.) Drop the garlic in the crock pot
7.) Add the water
8.) Drop in the bay leaf
9.) Add a little bit of salt (not too much as you already will have it salted with ham) and pepper to taste.
10.) Put your crock pot on either 6-8 hours (depending on how much time you have)
11.) Check soup - if you see its super thick - add more water (it's better to have not enough and add more than too much)
12.) ENJOY!
